I don’t see how Yahoo is going to get the record labels to go along with this, but they are currently testing an on-line music download service that would sell tracks without any DRM (digital rights management). Each song would be $1.99, which is double what they go for on iTunes. So, would you pay twice as much to get tracks without DRM? Will that be enough extra profit for the RIAA to get it’s panties out of a bunch? Hopefully one day we will get to find out.
