Beware Windows 8 On The Desktop

Microsoft Windows 8 is nearing release with a new preview release going live. Windows 8 is Microsofts bold plan to bring the Windows OS into the future. There is a new version of the Internet Explorer browser and social network integration galore. The biggest change and largest gamble, however, is the new Metro interface. This interface has its roots in the old Zune and later Windows Phone platforms. This is a modern tablet-ready interface.

It’s not bad and at least a fresh take on a mobile OS. The problem I see is on the millions of traditional PC desktops. I ran the preview on a traditional desktop with a keyboard and mouse and found it unusable. It just wasn’t designed for that. If Microsoft makes Metro the default UI on pc’s customers are going to freak. That’s my professional opinion ;).
